The nature of meteor shower (crossing of the dust trails [former cometary orbits] with the Earth's orbit).
3-D nature of the phenomenon: not every cometary passage causes meteor showers. Need a right crossing.
Why all meteor showers show maximum meteor rates only past midnight: because of the geometric orientation of the Earth's motion and Earth's rotation.
